Four guests arrive in electric cars and all leave the next morning. One high-powered charger can deliver plenty of energy overnight, but someone must move the cars. Guest convenience therefore depends on the number of connection points too.
A long stay gives cars time to share available charging power. If guests can plug in where they park, a well-designed system removes much of the overnight vehicle-swapping coordination.
Start with the morning requirement
In our example, four cars each receive 25 kWh measured at the charger during a ten-hour stay. That is 100 kWh in total, or an average aggregate power of 10 kW across the period.
This average is not electrical sizing: arrival times, vehicle acceptance, phases and other building loads all matter. It does anchor design in guests' energy need.
Adding four device maxima does not describe the night. The designer must determine how real demand fits the time available.
One charging point requires vehicle swaps
If one car charges continuously at 11 kW, 25 kWh theoretically takes about 2 hours 16 minutes. Four consecutive cars need roughly 9 hours 5 minutes on the same point, excluding changeover time.
It may fit on paper, but requires three vehicle swaps. One guest must move at the right moment and the next must take the space. A delay leaves less time for everyone else.
This is not a real measurement and assumes constant power. It shows that energy quantity and service convenience are connected design questions.
With more points, each guest parks once
With four connection points, all cars remain in place. The system can share available power without building the service around three overnight swaps.
Zaptec Pro manages load sharing and phase use across shared systems (Zaptec Pro). Its user manual says current per charger depends on the installation allowance and how many are charging (Pro user manual).
The 10 kW average does not mean four cars charge continuously at equal power. Actual distribution depends on system and vehicles. The aim is to distribute the planned energy during the stay.
Evening operation of the accommodation also matters
When guests arrive, the kitchen, water heating, space heating or spa may also run on the shared building connection. Design charging for the whole site.
Alongside guest count, give typical arrival and departure times. A late arrival leaving at dawn has a different window from a car parked afternoon to midday.
Tell guests what is actually true: the charger type, how power is shared and whether a defined energy quantity is promised. Do not promise a full charge without knowing the system plan and car.
Starting should be simple at reception
In our example, reception assigns the bay, provides terms and demonstrates starting. If identification is required, assign it to the guest or their designated access.
The Pro manual separately covers card identification and starting through an external operator. Fit the method to daily accommodation operations. Guests should know price, parking conditions and where to get help in advance.
The current Pro's integrated MID meter measures consumption; the chosen service handles settlement and payment. Staff should be able to retrieve the guest's session at checkout. Local invoicing and operating conditions require separate clarification.
Rehearse a complete guest arrival before opening
Have a colleague arrive as a first-time guest: find the bay, read terms, start charging and request help. Reception should retrieve the session and settlement data.
Check connectivity at the chargers. Working reception Wi-Fi does not prove the parking-area device connects properly. Zaptec specifies network requirements by device (Network guide).
With that handover, charging fits the stay: the guest parks once, understands the terms and relies on a prepared accommodation process.
